About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead a team of approximately five firmware and ML engineers
Provide hands-on technical leadership in designing, implementing, and optimizing high-performance production systems
Set technical direction for edge ML and embedded systems, including latency, power, memory, and model performance
Mentor engineers and guide architecture decisions
Partner with Product, Hardware, and Full-stack teams to take AI features from concept through device deployment
Improve AI products used by customers
Shape quarterly technical and product roadmaps with leadership
Balance product ambition with engineering health and make customer-impact tradeoffs
Build a culture of ownership, accountability, continuous improvement, and execution quality
Scale Samsara's engineering culture globally
Hire and develop an inclusive, engaged, high-performing team

Requirements

What you’ll need

3+ years of hands-on execution-oriented technical management experience
8+ years of experience in embedded systems and edge machine learning development
Proven track record managing a team of engineers that has shipped a mass production product
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a diverse, fast-paced, customer-focused environment
Experience deploying CV/ML models on edge devices in real-world applications
Experience working on products from concept to mass production
Proficiency in C/C++, Rust, or similar programming languages
Proficiency in GStreamer, Google MediaPipe, or similar edge AI/media frameworks
Experience with data analysis using Databricks, SQL queries, or Tableau
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent field
