About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Build systems that power Samsara’s product and scale the design team’s impact
Define components, patterns, tokens, and guidelines for people and AI agents
Work in design and code, shipping highly interactive UI across web and mobile
Codify principles, heuristics, and quality standards for AI generation
Develop core system components, evaluations, and feedback loops to improve AI design and code generation
Govern design quality and prevent low-quality AI output from reaching customers
Translate system decisions into maintainable, performant code
Build accessibility, responsiveness, and performance into the system by default
Establish contribution, governance, and deprecation models
Meet with designers and engineers, using feedback and usage data to guide future work
Share effective AI tools, workflows, and tactics with design and engineering teams
Champion Samsara’s cultural principles as the company scales globally

Requirements

What you’ll need

8+ years of experience in design engineering, design systems, product design, or front-end engineering, building UX/UI for web and mobile applications
Shipped design system or component library work
Portfolio, case studies, or code samples explaining what was built, how decisions were made, and how teams adopted the work; applications without a portfolio cannot be considered
Strong interaction and visual design skills
Experience with design tokens, theming, and accessibility standards
Regular use of AI tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Figma Make, with shipped work attributable to them
Experience connecting AI tools to a design system
Ability to explain, review, and debug generated code
Experience partnering with designers, engineers, and product managers on short cycles
Legal right to work at Samsara and in the specified work location
