About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Build systems that power Samsara’s product and scale the design team’s impact
Define components, patterns, tokens, and guidelines for people and agents to build with
Work in design and code, shipping highly interactive UI across web and mobile
Codify principles, heuristics, and quality standards for AI generation
Develop core system components, evaluations, and feedback loops to harden AI design and code generation
Govern design quality through structure and prevent low-quality AI output from reaching customers
Ensure system decisions translate cleanly into code, with shared ownership of quality, performance, and maintainability
Build accessibility, responsiveness, and performance into the system by default
Establish contribution, governance, and deprecation models
Meet regularly with designers and engineers, incorporating feedback and usage data
Share effective AI tools, workflows, and tactics with design and engineering teams
Champion and embed Samsara’s cultural principles as the company scales globally

Requirements

What you’ll need

8+ years of experience in design engineering, design systems, product design, or front-end engineering, building UX/UI for web and mobile applications
Shipped design system or component library work
Portfolio, case studies, or code samples explaining what you built, how you decided, and how teams adopted it; applications without a portfolio cannot be considered
Strong interaction and visual design skills
Experience with design tokens, theming, and accessibility standards
Regular use of AI tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Figma Make, with shipped work attributable to them
Experience connecting AI tools to a design system
Ability to explain, review, and debug generated code
Experience partnering with designers, engineers, and product managers on short cycles
