About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Take ownership of technically complex, mission-critical areas
Define and drive technical strategy for new products and platform capabilities
Design and ship full-stack features across backend, frontend, and potentially mobile
Deliver AI-powered products solving real operational problems
Partner with product, design, and customer-facing teams to translate ambiguous problems into technical plans and measurable outcomes
Build and scale systems behind AI-driven products, including data ingestion, APIs, and operator workflows
Conduct code reviews and design reviews
Mentor engineers and set standards for quality, velocity, and craft
Participate in customer interviews and collaborate with product managers and customer success
Champion and embed Samsara’s cultural principles while scaling globally and across new offices

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
8+ years of experience in software design and development, including building and operating production systems at scale
Strong full-stack fundamentals across backend services, APIs, and frontend (web or mobile)
Proficiency in Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, or similar modern languages and frameworks
Experience leading cross-team or cross-org projects from inception through rollout
Experience building AI-powered or data-driven products
Strong communication skills and ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders
Track record of building zero-to-one products, improving systems, or solving difficult problems
Experience shipping AI-powered features in production
Comfort with AI-augmented development workflows such as Cursor and LLMs
Background working with real-world operational data or strong interest in learning the domain
Track record of mentoring senior engineers and influencing engineering culture, standards, and best practices beyond a single team
Side projects, open-source contributions, or other signals of curiosity and drive are advantageous
