About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work directly with customers and customer-facing teams to understand unmet needs, test assumptions, and identify opportunities
- Agree on success measures with Product and Design before investing in solutions
- Lead ambiguous initiatives from discovery and prototypes through production rollout, adoption, and iteration
- Use customer feedback and product data to decide what to improve, expand, or stop
- Write and ship code across services, APIs, and customer-facing experiences
- Set technical direction and make pragmatic architecture choices
- Own production quality, correctness, reliability, performance, and safe rollouts
- Use operational evidence to address constraints as usage grows
- Improve engineer effectiveness through design and code reviews, mentoring senior engineers, and removing delivery obstacles
- Share context and decisions so others can work independently
- Champion and embed Samsara’s cultural principles
- Hire, develop, and lead an inclusive, engaged, high-performing team
Requirements
What you’ll need- Track record of shipping customer-facing products and growing them beyond initial launch
- Ability to explain contributions to measurable outcomes such as adoption, revenue growth, retention, customer efficiency, or cost to serve
- Strong product judgement and experience working directly with customers
- Experience clarifying poorly defined problems and making evidence-based decisions
- Deep hands-on software engineering ability
- Recent experience designing, implementing, and operating production systems
- Ability to move from prototype to maintainable software and explain trade-offs
- Experience scaling products and the systems behind them
- Ability to identify constraints, balance speed with reliability, and make technical investments supporting growth
- Technical leadership across team boundaries and ability to build alignment without formal authority
- Ability to communicate difficult choices clearly to technical and business partners
- Experience building B2B software through an early growth stage, or routing, workforce management, or software for physical operations is useful but not essential
