Key responsibilities & impact

Lead internal and external cross-functional teams to ensure comprehensive BESS execution scope coverage for offtake, M&A buyers, and other project needs
Partner with battery suppliers, EPC contractors, power plant controller providers, and inverter suppliers to estimate component costs and performance for battery energy storage systems in PV+S projects
Collaborate with battery suppliers, BESS contractors, and integrator partners to build investor confidence in new technologies or suppliers and reduce Levelized Cost of Storage
Own, write, and negotiate technical contracts for BESS EPC contractors and suppliers to meet PPA obligations at the lowest cost and risk
Specify BESS and power plant controls and SCADA capabilities for integration with onsite PV, interconnection facilities, and utility operations
Collaborate with Avantus PV design subject-matter experts to optimize storage facility and solar PV project designs
Prepare BESS supplier and EPC RFPs and technical requirements; manage handoff to support engineering, construction, scheduling, commissioning, and operations of PV+S projects
Support project engineering and technical matters with external engineering groups, including engineers of record, owners’ engineers, fire safety consultants, and independent engineers
Review BESS technical deliverables for technical needs and correct designs
Lead collaboration among BESS suppliers, contractors, and consultants to support AHJ BESS permitting

Requirements

What you’ll need

Highly experienced with BESS technology, performance, guarantees, integration, controls, equipment selection, and design
Experience in utility-scale battery and EPC contracting from a project buyer or seller perspective
Experience with BESS contractual guarantee terms, integration, equipment selection, and design
Experience with BESS subsystem performance, including batteries, inverters, and thermal management
In-depth knowledge of permitting, particularly NFPA, CFC, and UL certification processes
Background in utility operations, including dispatch of generators and battery storage controls
Experience with battery storage performance modeling
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
Bachelor of Science in STEM, preferably electrical or mechanical engineering
Familiarity with FERC, NERC, and CAISO/ERCOT regulations is a plus
Preferably graduate degree in STEM or PE in power system engineering
