About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Coordinate assigned division responsibilities in employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, retention, and legal compliance
- Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions
- Partner with training department or identify external resources for employee and manager development
- Coach and assist managers with employee relations issues in alignment with SBM and CBA policies and procedures
- Drive people engagement through management-team training, site visits, mobile-app use, and quarterly ESAT action plans
- Draft, execute, review, and maintain personnel transaction records and employee statistics for government reporting
- Champion talent review processes throughout the year
- Prepare employee separation notices, RIF actions, and supporting documentation while assessing risk
- Conduct exit interviews and train managers on handling separations
- Consult with managers and finance on pay activities, wage reviews, and pay changes
- Provide management guidance on performance management, including discipline, PIPs, and CAPs
- Complete special projects through objective clarification, scheduling, research, information organization, and transaction fulfillment
- Communicate project status and issues, resolve concerns, analyze time and cost issues, and prepare reports
- Investigate employee-relations issues and grievances and participate in personnel-related hearings
- Establish strong relationships with operations teams and maintain communication with sites and managers
- Carry out management responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, assigning work, performance evaluations, discipline, complaint resolution, and employee training
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience in both union and non-union environments is required
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, or a related field from a four-year college or university, with 2–4 years of experience as an HR Generalist; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Bilingual in English/Spanish
- May be required to have a valid driver’s license and meet SBM Driver Approval requirements
- Completed all safety and task training certifications
- Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily
- Ability to travel to different sites and locations as needed
- May have supervisory responsibility within assigned division(s)
