About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage high-volume book categories within the Scholastic Dollars Catalog and Classroom Collections businesses
  • Develop and execute strategic category plans aligned with business objectives
  • Establish category priorities and evaluate performance to identify growth opportunities
  • Lead customer-focused product assortments, pricing strategies, and product presentation plans
  • Read, review, evaluate, select, and acquire relevant titles and products for redemption programs
  • Analyze product sales, market research, and customer insights to inform selections and identify trends
  • Partner with Scholastic Trade and Book Fair Category Management teams on ordering efficiencies and collaboration
  • Build and maintain publisher and vendor relationships
  • Negotiate product costs, vendor terms, and promotional support
  • Evaluate tariff regulations and their impact on costs, sourcing, and profitability
  • Partner with Inventory Planning to develop inventory strategies
  • Provide item-level demand forecasts and purchasing recommendations
  • Monitor inventory productivity and sell-through and mitigate excess inventory risk
  • Collaborate with Product Marketing on promotional strategies
  • Lead catalog merchandising strategy for the book category
  • Direct the E-Commerce team and E-Commerce Specialist on online product presentation
  • Support sales team product training and education
  • Represent the Scholastic Dollars team at meetings, trade shows, and publishing conferences
  • Collaborate with Scholastic divisions and industry partners on trends and business growth
  • Improve category management tools, systems, and processes
  • Manage, mentor, and develop Assistant Category Manager(s)

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in category management or a comparable role
  • Demonstrated success identifying, analyzing, and leveraging category trends to inform product procurement and development strategies that drive sales and profitability
  • Proven ability to identify business opportunities, develop and implement strategic initiatives, and evaluate performance against business objectives
  • Experience in publishing, children's toys, children's media, or educational products preferred
  • Genuine love of reading and passion for education
  • Strong commitment to Scholastic's mission to encourage children to read and grow
  • Ability to lead and manage people, projects, and cross-functional initiatives
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment
  • Ability to work independently to drive results
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to adapt to changing business needs and meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated and adaptable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • High proficiency in Google Workspace applications
