About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Modify, diagnose, and change Seesaw’s Python HTTP backend running on Tornado
Work with data stored in Dynamo, Elasticsearch, and Redis
Contribute to infrastructure-as-code for provisioning AWS resources
Apply distributed-systems reasoning to technical decisions
Own technical work from inception through implementation, production monitoring, and alerting
Share best practices for code authoring, tool usage, and observability with engineering teams
Ensure platform security and reliability by addressing vulnerabilities and performance bottlenecks
Optimize cloud infrastructure for cost-effectiveness
Help develop the technical roadmap and engineering culture through design proposals and industry engagement
Partner with senior engineers, product managers, and stakeholders on strategic initiatives and infrastructure alignment

Requirements

What you’ll need

7+ years experience with backend development
Thorough understanding of distributed systems, including eventual consistency, fan-in fan-out patterns, and backpressure
Familiarity with AWS core services (EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, ECS/EKS) or similar cloud experience
Proficient with CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitHub Actions
Experience owning and operating infrastructure running software at high scale, including billions of incoming requests per month
Deep understanding of backend development and infrastructure at scale
Expertise implementing HTTP APIs and interacting with data storage layers
Infrastructure provisioning experience
Ability to execute independently and make sound decisions about when to seek information
