About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide analytical support for processing federal information requests, including routine and complex requests, backlogged cases, appeals, and litigation matters
- Review responsive records and evaluate disclosure requirements
- Prepare records and correspondence for Government review and release
- Coordinate with Government stakeholders, records custodians, and requesters to clarify request scope and address disclosure concerns
- Support eDiscovery searches, redaction, quality assurance, and process improvements
- Request, identify, review, and analyze responsive records using approved case-management and tracking systems
- Conduct disclosure reviews and apply FOIA exemptions under applicable laws and agency policies
- Prepare records for release using redaction tools, sanitization, Bates numbering, and withholding indexes
- Support appeals and litigation matters, including Relativity or other approved eDiscovery tools, correspondence, Vaughn-index support, and action documentation
- Develop and implement Government-approved search terms and document search activity
- Maintain complete and accurate case files and supporting documentation
- Review work products for completeness, accuracy, consistent exemption application, and required documentation
- Monitor case progress, elevate issues, and recommend process improvements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Demonstrated expertise in the review and handling of FOIA cases
- Relevant training and experience supporting FOIA case processing, disclosure review, records redaction, appeals, litigation, or related federal information-access work
- Strong working knowledge of FOIA processes and related federal laws and requirements
- Experience applying FOIA knowledge and independent judgment to records review and disclosure analysis
- Understanding of federal agency FOIA operations
- Familiarity with case-management systems, SharePoint, Box, and approved eDiscovery tools
- Strong analytical, writing, and organizational skills
- Ability to document disclosure recommendations, maintain accurate case files, manage competing priorities, and communicate clearly with stakeholders
- Ability to obtain and maintain the required Tier 1 background investigation
- Ability to comply with HSPD-12/PIV requirements and suitability procedures
- Ability to meet the residency requirement of having lived in the United States for at least three of the preceding five years before applying for a Federal ID Card, subject to applicable provisions
- Ability to complete required security awareness, privacy, records-management, Rules of Behavior, and applicable role-based training
- Compliance with nondisclosure requirements
- Ability to work remotely and attend in-person meetings as needed
