About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide crisis, suicide, and homicide intervention counseling by telephone to callers needing emergency or crisis assistance
  • Identify and suggest appropriate organizations and service providers to meet callers' needs
  • Monitor callers' situations through case follow-up
  • Document and maintain accurate records of telephone interventions during the work shift
  • Review daily and pass-through call reports for accurate information documentation and records maintenance
  • Supervise and monitor volunteers and/or staff counselors on assigned shifts
  • Provide crisis intervention and suicide awareness and prevention training and consultation
  • Attend individual supervision, staff and team meetings, and required CIC, 988, and SCS training sessions
  • Represent the CIC in internal and external activities promoting crisis and suicide awareness, prevention, and available resources

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Resident of the Greater Louisville area
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Social Services, or a related field of study; Psychology degree preferred
  • Active CIC volunteers may qualify with a high school diploma or GED, successful completion of all AAS/988/Vibrant required training for Crisis/Suicide Intervention Counselor status, and at least six months of independent CIC volunteer service after required training
  • Minimum of one year of experience in crisis intervention services or behavioral health services
  • Ability to make sound decisions and judgments in highly stressful, potentially life-threatening, or unusual situations
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to the capacity needs of an emergency 24/7/365 mental health service provider
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a remote team environment
  • Ability and willingness to protect caller and coworker confidentiality
  • Ability and willingness to suspend personal judgment regarding callers presenting with diverse issues
