Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the banking platform roadmap supporting accounts, deposits, cards, and lending on a single ledger and account model
  • Evaluate core banking platforms and processors; lead vendor diligence and build-vs-buy analysis
  • Shape account hierarchies, sub-ledgers, chart-of-accounts mapping, posting rules, holds, interest and fee accrual, and general ledger integration
  • Specify requirements for transfers, ACH, card issuing and network settlement, real-time rails, returns, reversals, exception handling, cutoff windows, and settlement reconciliation
  • Ensure reporting, traceability, controls, reconciliation, balance attestation, and complete transaction history for Finance, audit, and regulators
  • Partner with Compliance and Legal to translate regulatory requirements into platform capabilities
  • Own migration and cutover planning, including data mapping, parallel runs, validation, rollback plans, and phased cutover
  • Write technical specifications, API contracts, event schemas, data models, user stories, and release plans
  • Write SQL, define platform KPIs, and monitor posting latency, reconciliation breaks, settlement accuracy, and failure rates
  • Anticipate technical risks, edge cases, race conditions, and dependencies
  • Deliver against evolving regulatory and business timelines with incomplete information

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or other technical discipline (required)
  • 5–10 years of product experience, with meaningful time spent on financial infrastructure rather than only customer-facing surfaces
  • Real ownership in at least one of: ledgers/general ledger/balance and transaction systems; payments processing, orchestration, or money movement; card issuing or card program management; deposit, wallet, or account platforms; lending origination or loan servicing platforms; product work at a processor, BaaS provider, or core banking vendor
  • Comfort with double-entry accounting concepts in software, or genuine appetite to learn them quickly
  • Deep technical understanding of APIs, event-driven architecture, idempotency, distributed system failure modes, batch vs. real-time processing, and data flows
  • Strong SQL skills and ability to query and interpret data independently
  • Experience working directly with Compliance, Legal, Finance, or Treasury stakeholders
  • Ability to work in ambiguity and make sound, documented decisions with incomplete information
  • Strong written and verbal communication across engineering, Finance, and executive discussions
  • Hands-on familiarity with AI tools, data models, or generative AI applications
  • Preferred: direct experience with core banking platforms, core migration/conversion or ledger replacement, licensed financial institutions, consumer finance regulation, consumer credit or BNPL, card products, bank-fintech sponsorship programs, and third-party risk management/vendor oversight
