About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Set enterprise strategy for payroll, time and attendance, payroll tax and accounting, and related HR processes
- Serve as a strategic HR advisor on payroll, labor costs, compliance, associate experience, and operational performance
- Lead payroll transformation and modernization initiatives
- Oversee payroll governance, policies, controls, audits, tax reporting, SOX compliance, and federal, state, local, and international requirements
- Partner with HR and Operations to improve workforce utilization, scheduling, overtime management, productivity, and payroll accuracy
- Lead optimization of Workday, time and attendance, payroll platforms, integrations, analytics, automation, and AI-enabled solutions
- Develop payroll and workforce technology strategies, business cases, and roadmaps
- Own payroll vendor strategy, governance, performance management, contracts, and continuous improvement
- Establish KPIs, dashboards, service levels, and workforce analytics
- Advise senior leaders on payroll trends, workforce insights, cost opportunities, regulatory risk, and transformation priorities
- Build a high-performing organization through talent development, succession planning, cross-training, and continuous improvement
- Manage the Payroll Services budget, resources, operating expenses, technology investments, and financial accountability
- Build partnerships across HR, Total Rewards, Operations, Finance, IT, Tax, Legal, Audit, international teams, and external partners
- Represent Payroll Services in enterprise workforce strategy, HR technology, AI, automation, and transformation initiatives
- Provide strategic and operational oversight for payroll supporting approximately 18,000 U.S. and international associates
- Lead a team of 20+ employees and contractors and manage a multimillion-dollar operating budget
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 10+ years of progressive experience in payroll, HR operations, Total Rewards, or related leadership roles preferred
- Deep expertise in payroll operations, payroll tax and accounting, wage and hour requirements, employment law, audit controls, and SOX compliance
- Knowledge of U.S. multi-state and international payroll models, governance, vendors, and regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of workforce management, time and attendance, HRIS/ERP platforms, Workday, automation, AI, analytics, and emerging HR technologies
- Understanding of financial management, business cases, ROI, cost optimization, and operational performance metrics
- Enterprise strategy, governance, operating model design, policy development, and organizational leadership
- Business acumen, strategic thinking, data-driven decision-making, root cause analysis, and problem solving
- Process optimization, technology transformation, automation, and change management
- Executive communication, business case development, reporting, and presentation of complex information
- Cross-functional collaboration and influence across HR, Finance, Operations, IT, Legal, Tax, Audit, and external partners
- Vendor strategy, contract management, service delivery, and performance accountability
- Ability to lead complex, enterprise-wide initiatives while balancing competing priorities, risk, and business objectives
- Ability to build trusted relationships and influence decisions across functions, levels, and external partnerships
- Ability to translate complex payroll, workforce, compliance, and technology issues into clear recommendations and practical solutions
- Ability to identify risk, strengthen controls, and maintain accurate, timely, and compliant operations
- Ability to build high-performing teams through coaching, capability development, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Ability to drive innovation and technology adoption that improve efficiency, associate experience, and measurable business outcomes
