About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed electrical designs for industrial facilities, substations, utility infrastructure, and commercial power systems
- Prepare and review single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment layouts, cable schedules, panel schedules, grounding plans, and construction drawings
- Specify electrical equipment including switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, motor control centers, protective devices, cables, raceways, and grounding systems
- Complete load, cable-sizing, voltage-drop, grounding, equipment-sizing, and other electrical design calculations
- Support power system studies including short-circuit, equipment evaluation, protection coordination, load-flow, power quality, and arc-flash analysis
- Apply the Canadian Electrical Code, applicable CSA and IEEE standards, client requirements, and established engineering practices
- Coordinate assigned work with clients, project managers, field-service teams, contractors, vendors, and other engineering disciplines
- Monitor project activities against scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client expectations
- Respond to technical questions, requests for information, field changes, and construction-related issues
- Conduct site visits to collect field information, verify existing conditions, and confirm design requirements
- Support construction, electrical equipment inspection, testing, commissioning, energization, and troubleshooting
- Collaborate with field teams to ensure designs are practical, safe, and constructible
- Work occasionally in the field under Field Services direction on shutdown, startup, and maintenance projects
- Follow Shermco and client health, safety, environmental, and site-access requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited or recognized engineering program
- Registered as an Engineer-in-Training with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan, or eligible and willing to register as an EIT in Saskatchewan
- 4 - 6 years of overall experience in power systems, electrical distribution, substations, protection and control, electrical testing, commissioning, or field engineering
- Ability to work under the supervision of licensed Professional Engineers and within applicable engineering practice requirements
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documents
- Valid driver’s licence with the ability to travel approximately 10%, including overnight travel and work away from home when required
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
- Safety-focused approach to all work
- Strong attention to detail when reviewing drawings, test data, reports, and technical documents
- Practical problem-solving skills and curiosity about how electrical systems operate in the field
- Ability to communicate clearly with internal teams, customers, and site personnel
- Willingness to learn from engineers, technologists, technicians, and field-service teams
- Comfortable working in both office and field environments
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage documentation and project details
- Professional judgment and willingness to work within the limits of training, supervision, and EIT status
- Must comply with applicable site-access requirements, safety training, background checks, drug and alcohol testing where legally permitted and required by customer or site policy, and Shermco safety standards
