Field Service Engineer – Gas Insulated Switchgear

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide technical support during GIS installation, commissioning, testing, acceptance, and handover
- Supervise on-site installation and commissioning activities
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues and coordinate troubleshooting with field crews and subcontractors
- Oversee contracted maintenance work and verify that it meets project requirements
- Review and maintain test results, operating procedures, performance reports, drawings, and equipment documentation
- Coordinate daily site activities with customers, Shermco teams, and subcontractors
- Promote safe work practices and follow applicable regulations, procedures, and site requirements
- Ensure proper use and care of tools, test equipment, vehicles, materials, and supplies
Requirements
What you’ll need- 2–5 years of technical field service experience, preferably with high voltage switchgear or substation equipment
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Experience leading crews on electrical projects
- Ability to read and interpret contracts, specifications, and technical drawings
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and test equipment software
- Ability to travel up to 80%, potentially including assignments in Canada and Mexico
- A valid U.S. driver’s license
- Fluency in English
- Authorization to work for Shermco in the United States
