About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data at industrial and commercial customer sites
  • Work on low-, medium- and high-voltage electrical systems from 480 Volt to 600 kV
  • Perform instrument transformer tests
  • Conduct power transformer testing using Doble, TTR, insulation resistance and related methods
  • Test electro-mechanical and solid-state relays
  • Perform cable testing, including Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF and DC Hipot
  • Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches
  • Test low-, medium- and high-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers
  • Perform moderately complex relay calibration and power metering
  • Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner
  • Travel to customer sites and work with a team of professionals to complete work safely, efficiently and to high quality standards

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be able to drive daily locally/regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel
  • Prefer an Associate’s degree from an accredited 2 year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), or an EE Degree from an ABET accredited college, or similar experience and training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee)
  • NETA Certification (I, II, III or IV) or similar desired
  • At least 2 or more years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing and troubleshooting
  • Good PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Excel; PowerDB experience a plus
  • Ability to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures
  • OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training preferred
  • Must remain drug-free and pass a pre-employment hair follicle drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests
  • Acceptable pre-employment criminal background check
  • Physically fit to crawl, climb, stand, walk and lift up to 75 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations; must pass a fit for duty physical exam
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a good driving record
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime, including occasional weekends, holidays and nights
  • Must not currently or in the future require sponsorship to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Willingness to travel at least 40%
  • Acceptable background check and drug and alcohol screening results
