About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data on low-, medium- and high-voltage electrical systems at industrial and commercial customer sites
Perform instrument transformer tests
Conduct power transformer testing using Doble, TTR, insulation resistance and related methods
Test electro-mechanical and solid-state relays
Perform cable testing including Tan Delta, power factor, VLF and DC Hipot
Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches
Test low-, medium- and high-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers
Perform moderately complex relay calibration and power metering
Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner
Work with a team of professionals to complete work safely, efficiently and to high quality standards

Requirements

What you’ll need

Must be able to drive daily locally/regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel
Prefer an Associate’s degree from an accredited 2 year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), or an EE Degree from an ABET accredited college, or similar experience and training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee)
NETA Certification (I, II, III or IV) or similar desired
At least 2 years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing and troubleshooting
Good PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Excel; PowerDB experience a plus
Ability to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures
OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training preferred; training can be provided by Shermco
Must remain drug-free and pass pre-employment and periodic random drug tests
Acceptable pre-employment criminal background check
Physically fit to crawl, climb, stand, walk and lift up to 75 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations; must pass a fit-for-duty physical exam
Valid driver’s license and good driving record
Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime, including occasional weekends, holidays and nights
Must not currently or in the future require sponsorship to work in the U.S.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
Willingness to travel; minimum 40%
