About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Travel to industrial and commercial customer sites
  • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data on low-, medium- and high-voltage electrical systems from 480 Volt to 600 kV
  • Perform instrument transformer tests
  • Perform power transformer testing, including Doble, TTR and insulation resistance
  • Test electro-mechanical and solid-state relays
  • Perform cable testing, including Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF and DC Hipot
  • Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches
  • Test low-, medium- and high-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers
  • Perform moderately complex relay calibration and power metering
  • Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Prefer an Associate’s degree from an accredited 2 year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), or an EE Degree from an ABET accredited college
  • Similar experience and training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee)
  • NETA Certification (III or IV) or similar desired; Electrician license preferred
  • At least 5 or more years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing & troubleshooting
  • Good PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Excel; PowerDB experience is a plus
  • Ability to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures
  • OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training preferred
  • Ability to drive daily locally/regionally and availability for periodic overnight travel
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background check
  • Ability to crawl, climb, stand and lift up to 100 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Ability to pass a fit for duty physical exam
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a good driving record
  • Availability for regular overnight domestic travel and occasional international travel
  • U.S. passport and TWIC card are a plus
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, overtime, occasional weekends, holidays and nights
  • Eligible to work in the U.S. without employer-sponsored visa
  • Willingness to travel
  • Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English
