About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the complete broadcast signal chain from studio cameras, lighting, audio, graphics, production control, and master control through satellite, fiber/IP, television affiliates, OTT platforms, and digital streaming endpoints
  • Lead the Broadcast Engineering team, including hiring, scheduling, performance management, and on-call rotation oversight
  • Ensure broadcast uptime, audio and video quality, FCC compliance, transmission reliability, disaster recovery, cybersecurity coordination, capital planning, preventive maintenance, vendor management, and technology modernization
  • Manage capital planning and budget for broadcast infrastructure
  • Act as primary liaison between engineering and production, programming, IT, and executive leadership
  • Set the technology roadmap, including IP-based video migration, cloud playout, automation systems, and broadcast-network cybersecurity
  • Ensure broadcast technology supports accurate and compelling presentation of jewelry, gemstones, fashion, beauty, and home products
  • Maintain camera quality, close-up product imaging, gemstone and metal color accuracy, lighting, audio clarity, graphics integrity, and reliable Shop LC signal delivery
  • Plan long-term technology upgrades, negotiate with vendors and contractors, and justify capital expenditures
  • Train, mentor, and develop engineering staff; manage succession planning
  • Ensure 24/7 broadcast reliability and manage outage escalation and root-cause response
  • Oversee FCC regulatory adherence, safety programs, business continuity, and disaster recovery
  • Partner with Production, Sales, Merchandising, Programming, Ecommerce, IT, Facilities, Finance, and executive leadership
  • Manage equipment manufacturers, satellite/uplink providers, and system integrators
  • Establish service levels, monitoring, escalation procedures, redundancy standards, and disaster-recovery plans
  • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective action after significant technical incidents

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Typically 10+ years in broadcast/media engineering
  • At least 3–5 years in a supervisory or management capacity
  • Track record managing teams responsible for live production, master control, or transmission systems
  • Experience with capital budgeting and vendor negotiation
  • Deep knowledge of RF/satellite, video servers, switching/routing, IP-based workflows, and studio automation
  • Familiarity with networking, cybersecurity, and virtualization as they intersect with broadcast
  • Understanding of FCC regulations and compliance requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Broadcast Technology, or related field is preferred; equivalent hands-on experience with progressive leadership responsibility is accepted in lieu of a degree
  • Proven people management, including hiring, coaching, performance reviews, and scheduling a 24/7 team
  • Strong communication skills for translating technical issues to non-technical executives
  • Budget ownership and vendor negotiation experience
  • Change management skills, especially around SDI-to-IP technology transitions
  • Ability to remain stationary, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Ability to move objects up to 40 pounds, reach above head, and use a ladder when needed
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and fingers
  • SBE senior-level certifications such as CBRE or CBNT are preferred, not always required
  • FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) is preferred, not always required
  • PMP certification is a plus
