About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the engineering side of a product team, reporting to and supporting the Product General Manager
  • Manage engineers’ performance, growth, and day-to-day execution
  • Move work from “ready to build” through to “shipped and stable” with high quality and predictable cadence
  • Deliver code and ship improvements to customers while managing the team
  • Plan and manage sprint or cycle capacity
  • Break work into milestones with estimates and track delivery progress
  • Surface delivery risks and slippage early
  • Act as the primary escalation path and remove blockers
  • Run regular 1:1s, progress development plans and competency matrix levels, set goals, and give feedback
  • Manage performance issues directly and constructively
  • Maintain engineering process standards for test coverage, PR quality, and deployment practices with the Tech Lead
  • Communicate delivery status proactively to stakeholders and serve as the focal point for communication into engineering
  • Align with the Product Design Manager on priorities, sequencing, and scope or delivery trade-offs
  • Escalate decisions or resource needs to the Product General Manager
  • Ensure engineers receive real customer signal and support fast iteration
  • Balance increased AI-assisted throughput with quality and process standards
  • Collaborate with distributed teams across Australia, the UK, Southeast Asia, Brazil, and Canada

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience managing or leading a team of engineers, with direct reports or clear equivalent responsibility
  • Strong delivery management across capacity planning, work breakdown, estimation, tracking, and early risk escalation
  • Current, hands-on coding ability and understanding of best practices
  • Hands-on background in Javascript / TypeScript, Node.js, Angular or React, and MongoDB
  • Track record of growing engineers through feedback, goal setting, and career development
  • Willingness to handle underperformance directly and constructively
  • Comfort operating in shared accountability with product counterparts
  • Experience in a scale-up or high-growth product environment — nice to have
  • Experience managing distributed or multi-time-zone teams — nice to have
  • Experience improving engineering processes such as sprint cadence, release process, or on-call — nice to have
  • Practical experience with AI-assisted development workflows — nice to have
  • Jira or an equivalent planning and tracking tool
  • Confluence or equivalent documentation practice
  • AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar
  • AWS — bonus tool
  • Observability tooling such as Clickstack, Datadog, Bugsnag, or Sentry — bonus tool
  • Willingness to work in the office at least 2 days per week if based in Sydney or Melbourne
  • Full permanent work rights in Australia, or relevant visa information and potential sponsorship requirements
