About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, build, and maintain Java backend services using Spring Boot or similar frameworks
Deliver features across registration, KYC, login and MFA, device registration, account management, tax reporting, Fanatics ID integration, and watchlist monitoring
Build and maintain services enforcing regulatory and responsible gaming requirements, including geolocation, state and self-exclusion, prohibited persons, loss limits, and eligibility
Build integrations with third-party identity, verification, geolocation, and compliance providers, designing for failure, retries, and data integrity
Write scalable, well-tested services with strong unit and integration test coverage
Contribute to architecture and design discussions for APIs, event-driven systems, and data flows
Troubleshoot complex production issues and participate in the weekly on-call rotation, runbooks, and post-mortems
Partner with Product, Technical Program Management, Compliance, Support, and client engineering on technical solutions and agile delivery
Mentor junior to mid-level engineering teammates through code reviews, design feedback, and pairing
Follow engineering best practices including CI/CD, testing, observability, feature flagging, and documentation; address technical debt

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of professional software engineering experience with Java
Strong experience building and supporting production Java backend services with Spring Boot or similar frameworks
Experience developing REST APIs and integrating distributed systems and data flows
Experience with event-driven architectures such as Kafka or similar messaging platforms
Experience working in AWS or other cloud environments
Experience with relational and NoSQL data stores such as Postgres and MongoDB
Experience using AI tools or coding assistants to improve engineering productivity
Strong troubleshooting, ownership, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and with cross-functional partners
Experience with identity and account systems, KYC, fraud, or payments is preferred
Experience with compliance-driven systems is preferred
Experience building highly available, regulated, or enterprise-scale applications is preferred
Experience with observability tooling and operating services on call is a plus
