About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage projects, delegate to office and field staff, and execute day-to-day project activities
- Conduct site visits and field investigations when necessary
- Prepare proposals and review/write geotechnical engineering reports, dam investigation and repair reports, and construction-phase testing and inspection reports with Principal Engineer guidance and review
- Manage project performance and project contractual and financial issues, including terms of agreement, changes in scope, scheduling, and billing process
- Manage, mentor, and coordinate with project-level scientists, engineers, consultants, and SLR staff
- Conduct and review technical analyses/calculations
- Participate in meetings and agency consultation
- Ensure work is conducted safely and in accordance with company safety rules and applicable standards
- Develop health and safety plans, coordinate and participate in safety meetings and training, conduct work site inspections, use required PPE, and respond to unsafe work hazards
- Conduct internal and client communications
- Provide business development support
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering
- 7+ years of relevant work experience in geotechnical engineering
- PE is strongly preferred, but on track to become appropriately licensed is required
- History of providing geotechnical engineering consulting services for new development, forensic investigations, dam assessment and rehabilitation, and construction-phase testing and inspection
- Understands geotechnical engineering foundation analysis and design procedures, ground improvement methods, assessment of dam integrity and development of repair documents, construction-phase testing and inspection methods and procedures
- Balances field and office assignments; strong organizational skills
- Prepares technical deliverables, data analysis, and drawing preparation for geotechnical engineering reports and dam engineering plans and specifications
- Experience preparing reports that demonstrate technical knowledge and the ability to review the reports of others
- Manages task assignments and helps mentor/train other staff as required
- Communicate effectively with clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions and fosters a positive working relationship with the client
- Systematically and pro-actively examines the various components of an issue to understand key elements and relationships and thinks strategically, considering a broad range of internal and external factors when solving problems and seeking input before making decisions
- Completes tasks with minimal supervision and direction – self-starter
- Demonstrates professional judgment, consistency, strong attention to detail, and background of high-quality work products
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Possess or have completed 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and 8-hour refresher training
