About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support research projects and document critical findings
  • Contribute to cost optimization through formulation and processing improvements
  • Create product prototypes and support future development initiatives
  • Identify and approve potential ingredient and manufacturing suppliers
  • Support development of new products and line extensions from bench-top concepts through commercialization
  • Conduct pilot plant tests and production trials
  • Generate viable prototypes and refine formulations for improved product quality
  • Collaborate with R&D team members on hands-on innovation and product development
  • Manage product formulations using an online database system
  • Create and adjust recipes to meet development needs
  • Maintain project files, specifications, and key product data
  • Collaborate with Business, Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, and Engineering teams
  • Document and organize product reviews and communicate project progress to stakeholders
  • Develop skills through training, hands-on experience, and understanding USDA/FDA regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Food Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required
  • Currently enrolled Bachelor's degree college student with anticipated graduation by end of the current semester/quarter may qualify
  • Strong scientific knowledge of meat, non-meat ingredients, and their functionality
  • Ability to work with pilot plant equipment with minimal supervision
  • Proficient in online work systems and product development software tools
  • Continuously improves and updates food/meat science and product development skills
  • Understanding of current plant process systems
  • Ability to complete required applicable forms in English; ability to read and write in English
  • Ability to multitask
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • May require travel up to 10–40%, depending on location
  • Ability to work in office and plant settings, including wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • Frequently able to stand, sit, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear
