About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Analyze data and draft implementation plans for production process optimization.
  • Identify ways to maximize efficiencies by eliminating waste of valuable resources and reducing operating costs.
  • Design and develop technical projects for the pork and packaged meat industry using science and mathematics principles.
  • Perform engineering assignments on complex and large projects.
  • Serve as a recognized internal expert and subject matter expert in project management.
  • Solve unique and complex problems and provide broad solutions to external business, vendor, and regulatory issues.
  • Lead multiple project teams by providing direction and coaching.
  • Develop and execute overall project plans, including budget, schedule, communication, and risk management plans.
  • Develop accurate project budgets and proactively control spending across sub-teams.
  • Develop realistic project schedules, monitor progress, and take corrective action.
  • Develop preliminary engineering designs and manage project scope.
  • Develop communication plans and proactively communicate potential issues and recommended solutions.
  • Continuously improve robotic and controls knowledge to execute innovative solutions.
  • Potentially supervise Associate Engineers, Project Engineers, Senior Project Engineers, and Project Managers.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering or related field and 8+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and techniques related to food processing and the meat industry, preferred.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and design issues.
  • Knowledge of installation and construction project scheduling.
  • Project Management skills.
  • Contract Administration skills.
  • National codes and standards interpretation skills.
  • Previous experience in the management of multi-million dollar projects with large scopes, desirable.
  • Proficient in engineering economics.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software, Word processing software, and other Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable, and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Travel is required with extended overnight stays.
  • Ability to work in office and plant environments, including wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, and potentially loud noise.
  • Must be able to perform supervisory responsibilities, including interviewing, hiring, training, assigning work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and resolving complaints and problems.
