About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own medium-sized projects end-to-end from design through launch and operation
- Contribute as a key engineer on large, multi-team initiatives
- Build federated, distributed billing systems that meter, rate, and invoice usage across Snowflake services
- Shape billing strategy for AI products, including token-based inference, agent workflows, and AI-native subscriptions
- Use AI in development, code review, debugging, and on-call triage
- Own reliability and correctness through on-call participation, cross-area debugging, and systemic monitoring, alerting, and quality improvements
- Serve as the go-to expert for billing components such as metering, rating, invoicing, contracts, payments, threshold billing, fraud, or reporting
- Mentor other engineers
- Partner with Product, Finance, GTM Systems, Growth, Trust, Legal, and engineering teams to translate business intent into reliable, auditable systems
Requirements
What you’ll need- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience building and supporting large-scale, production distributed systems
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, including consistency, fault tolerance, idempotency, exactly-once processing, queueing, and stream/batch data pipelines
- Strong database and data modeling fundamentals, including SQL fluency, schema design, and performance tuning
- Proficiency in one or more of Java, Scala, Python, or Go
- Experience with testing, observability, CI/CD, and incremental rollout practices
- Ability to independently design, spec, schedule, and deliver medium-sized projects
- Track record of owning reliability, participating in on-call, debugging production issues, and driving systemic fixes
- Excellent communication and collaborative working style
- Hands-on experience with AI as a builder's tool
- Bonus: experience in billing, payments, metering, revenue, financial systems, fraud detection, abuse mitigation, trust/safety systems, AI/ML pricing models, Snowflake or comparable cloud data platforms, or AI developer-productivity tooling
