About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Contribute to frontend and backend engineering for cloud software systems on the Spotter team
Design and build features for applications such as spotter.sofarocean.com and APIs interacting with Sofar hardware products
Own features across the full stack, from data storage through user interfaces
Architect, develop, test, release, monitor, maintain, and optimize features
Collaborate with software engineers, hardware engineers, firmware engineers, designers, product managers, and scientists
Improve application performance through React data invalidation, caching, database index optimization, and remotely configurable hardware thresholds
Help automate configuration and updating of remote hardware devices
Document complex decision trees and account for edge cases
Report to the Senior Engineering Manager
Mentor others through thoughtful code reviews

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of professional software development experience in modern cloud environments
Significant professional experience with Typescript, React, and Postgres
Experience owning the full lifecycle of features from conception and architecture through development and testing, CI/CD release, monitoring and alerting, maintenance, and optimization
Comfortable architecting solutions from data storage layer to user interfaces
Full-stack experience developing frontend and backend elements of modern web applications
Ability to work onsite at the Pier 28 office at least 3 days per week
Experience collaborating with hardware and firmware engineers
Significant expertise with AWS services such as ECS, ALB, CloudFront, RDS, ElastiCache, Lambda, and IAM is a bonus
Complex data visualization experience is a bonus
Acoustics expertise or knowledge of sonic propagation in dynamic ocean environments is a bonus
