About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Support ongoing projects involving in-house application development, systems integration, and daily Systems Engineering team operations
Maintain full-stack development aspects, including MySQL database administration, Python-based back-end coding and design, and JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS front-end development within Django
Assist with maintenance of versioning infrastructure, including the Development Lab and Git
Troubleshoot end-user issues with in-house applications and codebase issues
Assist senior developers with application design, coding, and support
Assist with security and data protection for Systems Engineering devices and applications
Support deployment of virtual infrastructure, including virtual machines, virtual networks, and management systems
Document Systems Engineering processes, infrastructure, and project scopes
Develop network and code knowledge to progressively assume ownership of projects
Maintain project scopes and tasks according to Agile development principles
Deliver project milestones in a timely and consistent manner
Participate in the Systems Engineering team’s on-call rotation
Serve as backup to the Senior Developer and coordinate with team members working across infrastructure layers

Requirements

What you’ll need

Working knowledge of at least one Python web framework; Django preferred
Familiarity with integration of multiple data sources and databases into one system
Basic understanding of server-side templating languages, such as Jinja 2 or Mako
Working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3 for front-end UI development
Basic understanding of accessibility and security compliance
Basic understanding of user authentication and authorization between multiple systems, servers, and environments
Familiarity with AGILE development framework
Basic knowledge of networking, primarily OSI layers 1-3
Ability to troubleshoot server issues, primarily on Linux distributions
Ability to debug code errors
Basic knowledge of VPN infrastructures, firewalls, and supporting out-of-band networks
Basic understanding of code versioning tools
Ability to collaborate with the design team to understand end-user requirements and provide technical solutions
Knowledge of application deployment processes and server setup
Intermediate knowledge of Linux OS; RHEL/CentOS/AlmaLinux preferred
Basic knowledge of virtualization processes via a hypervisor; VMware preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and relevant design software
Ability to work independently and in team settings while taking ownership of deliverables
Ability to receive and apply feedback and constructive criticism
Ability to meet established deadlines while maintaining quality standards
Ability to concisely document processes and designs
Preferred: 4 Year Degree in Computer Science or related field
Preferred: Working knowledge of Python or similar language with 1-2 years’ experience in Python development
