About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Inspect production and finished goods or units for compliance with blueprints and other specifications, including weight test requirements
  • Communicate inspection findings with production personnel
  • Occasionally interpret job routes and ensure instructions are followed in the work area
  • Interpret weld symbols and instructions and distinguish weld quality
  • Inspect painted units for proper paint processes and paint quality
  • Provide department employees with guidance, direction, and technical assistance to correct or avoid errors
  • Develop and maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Perform quality inspections of work in process and final inspection in shipping to provide customer satisfaction
  • Represent the shop floor at quality meetings and on improvement teams as required
  • Perform other assigned duties and assignments

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience reading and understanding blueprints, welding techniques, painting and metal fabrication
  • Developed communication skills and computer proficiency
  • MS Office experience
  • Experience communicating errors and error-prevention techniques through personal interaction based on trust, respect, communication, and problem solving with individuals and the team
  • Ability to stand for 8 to 10 hours while performing the job
  • Ability to lift 30 to 60 lbs safely and consistently
  • Must be able to bend, twist, reach, and grasp items for inspection
  • Interpersonal and influence skills through demonstrated succinct and professional communications
  • Ability to learn Southworth’s product offering, specifications, and options, comprehend the customer’s application, and recommend the appropriate solution
  • Ability to work independently and take appropriate initiative under minimal supervision
  • Proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Solid team-building skills and ability to work as a team player
  • Proven presentation skills and emotional intelligence
  • Optimistic, can-do attitude and ability to work well in a fast-paced and changing environment
