About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Build and lead the team for Spacelift’s Kubernetes application-delivery product
Hire backend and frontend engineers and grow them
Establish practices for planning, design review, code review, and on-call
Prototype early, test designs with customers, and iterate based on feedback
Ship the first product release
Document major architecture decisions and rejected alternatives
Estimate the build and create a phased delivery plan
Run design-partner pilots with the Product Manager
Own reliability, security, quality, and delivery
Coordinate shared components with the Deploy, run engine, and platform teams
Lead development of release promotion across environments and clusters, approvals, policy gates, audit trails, version visibility, Terraform/OpenTofu integration, and Argo CD agent/API/provider components
Report to the VP of Engineering and collaborate with the Product Manager and product designer

Requirements

What you’ll need

Experience managing engineers, including hiring
Recent hands-on engineering experience sufficient to lead architecture and review code
Production experience with Argo CD or Flux, including syncing, rendering Helm and Kustomize, reporting health, and scaling challenges
Experience building distributed systems, developer platforms, or workflow engines
Working knowledge of Terraform or OpenTofu
Ability to write design documents that catalyse collaboration and create strong technical designs
Strong written and spoken English (B2 or above)
Based in Europe

Nice to have: Kargo, Argo Rollouts, Harness, or another GitOps delivery tool
