About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee program staff, program operations, services, and implementation of programs and processes
  • Ensure New York Edge quality standards, guidelines, and contract requirements are met
  • Manage day-to-day after-school program operations
  • Conduct staff performance evaluations and development plans with the Program Manager and HR
  • Lead weekly and monthly team meetings covering classroom management, lesson planning, writing prompts, and social-emotional learning
  • Communicate regularly with the supervisor regarding program updates, progress, and needs
  • Coordinate community outreach and present the program to recruit participants
  • Prepare attendance, daily activity, program content, program design, and other internal and external reports
  • Provide weekly individual supervision, feedback, goal-setting, and competency assessments to staff
  • Support team members, including indirect reports, and provide feedback
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager, Borough Director, and Curriculum and Training Departments on professional development workshops and seminars
  • Collaborate with the Principal and Assistant Principals on program delivery aligned with student achievement and performance goals
  • Monitor student registration, staff documents, ratios, attendance tracking, IDs, building permits, and other program compliance requirements
  • Perform other duties to ensure efficient and effective center and program operations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree required, with preference in Education, Psychology, or Social Work
  • At least 18.0 credit hours from an accredited college or university in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in urban education, youth development, or community organizing
  • At least one (1) year of supervisory experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with youth and adolescents in New York City in an after-school or community center setting
  • Strong understanding of New York City and New York State education requirements in an urban setting
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of after-school programs, staff supervision, and program planning
  • Ability to de-escalate potentially risky or difficult situations
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, manage priorities and workflow
  • Ability to articulate outcome requirements and provide appropriate resources and support
  • Ability to interact with diverse individuals in person, virtually, and over the phone
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs and lift or move objects/materials as needed
  • Required safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health at time of offer and acceptance
