About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Standardize and improve the agency’s communication efforts
  • Oversee implementation of internal and external communication strategies
  • Manage social media platforms, the website, and media relations
  • Write copy and publish regular content and informational materials
  • Consult with the BCO team to develop communication procedures and policies for situations or crises
  • Draft and publish media releases announcing agency news and critical public information
  • Develop talking points for agency and state leadership
  • Respond to media inquiries
  • Write letters, memos, and other business correspondence
  • Communicate with media outlets and journalists and create press kits
  • Develop branding materials and templates, including style guides and media releases
  • Coach and assist team members in improving communication skills
  • Conduct communications research and monitor communications strategies
  • Represent AZDOHS at conferences, events, task forces, workgroups, and community engagements
  • Participate in general AZDOHS staff activities and perform other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience in communication, media, training relations
  • Experience in agency branding
  • Availability to work in Phoenix, AZ on a hybrid schedule (3 days onsite / 2 days remote), Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM
  • Experience managing or developing an organization/agency brand, including style guides, templates, or branding materials
  • Experience writing and distributing press releases, media statements, talking points, or other public-facing communications
  • Experience managing communication channels such as social media, websites, media relations, or public information campaigns
