About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for physician assessment
  • Record and maintain patients' medical data in medical charts
  • Assist physicians with phone requests from patients, medical professionals, and institutions
  • Perform physician-requested ancillary and/or surgical patient procedures, excluding IV medication administration
  • Maintain equipment, instruments, and supply inventory levels
  • Support the organization’s vision, mission, values, and Lean continuous-improvement principles
  • Provide a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests
  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, confidentiality, HIPAA, and corporate integrity requirements
  • Deliver timely, efficient, accurate customer service and patient care
  • Perform additional duties of similar complexity as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current MA Certification from AMT, NCCT, AAMA, NAHP, NHA, or current Oregon licensure as an intermediate or paramedic level EMT, LPN, RN, or Athletic Trainer
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification
  • Basic knowledge of ICD-10, CM/CPT/HCPCS coding conventions and procedures
  • Working knowledge of medical practice management information systems
  • Basic knowledge of physician office documentation standards
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and meet all HIPAA requirements
  • NHA-certified candidates qualifying through work experience rather than an accredited Medical Assisting Program must have one year of Medical Assisting experience
  • Ability to travel to business functions, trainings, meetings, and all St. Charles Health System worksites
  • Ability to wear required PPE
  • Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Preferred: Two years of Medical Assisting experience
