Patient Safety Assistant, Float

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide constant visual observation and support for pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients requiring close monitoring
- Report changes in patient behavior or condition to nursing staff or the healthcare team
- Conduct room checks and remove potentially harmful items
- Assist with activities of daily living, including ambulation, toileting, and meals
- Interact with patients using a polite, therapeutic, and positive approach
- Document observations, interventions, and patient responses in the medical record
- Follow de-escalation strategies, room safety protocols, and other safety interventions
- Work under the direction of an RN
- Maintain patient dignity, confidentiality, and a safe environment for patients, caregivers, and guests
- Stock unit supplies and assist with patient mobility
- Ensure patients have appropriate belongings and are ready for discharge
- Transport discharged patients within the facility
- Travel between and cover shifts at St. Charles hospitals and nursing departments in Bend, Redmond, Prineville, and Madras
- Deliver timely, safe, efficient, and accurate patient care and customer service
- Support continuous improvement, organizational values, and the care experience
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be willing to take additional courses as required for the position
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification prior to completion of orientation
- Code Gray or AVADE Training within 3 months of hire
- Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Basic understanding of medical terminology, patient care principles, and safety protocols
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations
- Physical stamina and ability to stand or sit for extended periods
- Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels within St. Charles Health System and external customers/clients/potential employees
- Strong teamwork and collaborative skills
- Ability to follow verbal and written communications to complete duties and assignments
- Ability to travel and work in various St. Charles Hospitals and nursing departments
- Preferred: Current Licensure/Certification as a CNA, EMT, or Medical Assistant
- Preferred: Completion of training program: EMT, CNA, MA, Paramedic, or completion of 1st quarter/semester of nursing school for RN Students
- Must be able to perform the stated physical requirements, including standing/walking, sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, bending, reaching, and climbing stairs
- Must be able to use a motor vehicle to travel between all 4 St. Charles campuses
