About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Float to cover shifts at Prineville, Madras, and Redmond
  • Process laboratory orders and perform phlebotomy procedures and collections for patients of all ages
  • Perform collections according to standards of practice, system policies, procedures, and scope of practice
  • Prioritize specimen collections according to urgency and ordered tests
  • Navigate the Lab Information System and process and test samples using laboratory instruments and processes
  • Perform point-of-care testing, including CLIA-waived testing, moderate-complexity testing, and quality control
  • Navigate computer systems to find physician orders, update and verify patient information, research billing questions, place orders, and meet regulatory requirements
  • Facilitate distribution of results by fax, phone, or delivery
  • Assist RNs and physicians with blood collections and specialty procedures
  • Respond to codes, traumas, and rapid responses; perform AHA BLS when requested
  • Register laboratory patients, collect payments for specialty kit draws, select insurance plans, and review eligibility responses
  • Research tests and diagnostic codes according to billing and insurance requirements
  • Maintain patient, caregiver, and guest safety and comply with confidentiality, laws, regulations, and organizational policies
  • Assist with special projects and train or mentor caregivers after meeting competency and experience requirements

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely
  • Ability to meet St. Charles Health System driving requirements
  • Strong team working and collaborative skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate and interact with a diverse population
  • Must meet all competency requirements and training timelines
  • Ability to navigate multiple complex computer systems
  • Ability to think critically, multitask, and maintain accuracy during frequent interruptions
  • No prior experience required
  • Previous direct patient care experience and/or college science background preferred
