About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide comprehensive crisis intervention for patients and families presenting for psychiatric symptom assessment
- Coordinate admissions and referrals to appropriate levels of care
- Conduct intake assessments in the Emergency Department and/or Walk In Center
- Make referral recommendations and facilitate referral decisions and placement
- Interact with physicians, advanced practitioners, care teams, and behavioral health staff
- Coordinate with behavioral health team members regarding patient flow and placement
- Serve as a liaison for other hospital and network sites
- Support patient-care areas and external customers accessing Behavioral Health Services
- Maintain knowledge of mental health regulations and admission procedures
- Respond to agitation/violent behavior as a Control Team member
- Monitor the therapeutic environment
- Support utilization management and pre-certification processes
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Mental health professional with a Bachelor’s degree in a human services field and 2-6 years of equal job experience, or a Master’s degree in a human services field and 1-3 years of equal job experience
- Minimum of 1 year of direct clinical mental health/crisis intervention experience required
- Previous experience with case management/utilization review and managed care models preferred
- Knowledge of Mental Health regulations and procedures concerning patient rights and voluntary/involuntary admission status
- Competency in assessment, treatment range, growth and development, and age-appropriate communication
- Ability to respond to agitation/violent behavior using verbal de-escalation and/or physical restraint
- Ability to care for agitated/violent patients who may require seclusion/restraints
- Ability to complete pre-certification processes for intakes and consults
- Ability to meet the stated physical and sensory requirements
