About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide comprehensive crisis intervention for patients and families presenting for psychiatric symptom assessment
- Coordinate admissions and referrals to appropriate levels of care
- Conduct intake assessments in the Emergency Department and/or Walk In Center
- Make referral recommendations and facilitate referral decisions and patient placement
- Interact with physicians, advanced practitioners, care teams, and behavioral health staff
- Coordinate with behavioral health team members regarding patient flow and placement
- Serve as a liaison for other hospital and network sites
- Support patient care areas and external customers seeking behavioral health services
- Maintain knowledge of mental health regulations and procedures concerning patient rights and admission status
- Serve on the Control Team and respond to agitation/violent behavior
- Provide care for agitated/violent patients requiring seclusion or restraints
- Support utilization management and the pre-certification process for intakes and consults
- Monitor the therapeutic environment
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Meet the listed physical and sensory requirements, including sitting, standing, walking, writing, typing, chart handling, lifting up to 10 pounds, and relevant visual and hearing functions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Mental health professional with a minimum of one of the following: Bachelor’s degree in a human services field and 2-6 years of equal job experience; or Master’s degree in a human services field and 1-3 years of equal job experience
- Minimum 1 year of direct clinical mental health/crisis intervention experience required
- Knowledge of mental health regulations and procedures relating to patient rights and voluntary/involuntary admission status
- Competency in assessment, range of treatment, growth and development, and age-appropriate communication
- Ability to respond to agitation/violent behavior using verbal de-escalation and/or physical restraint
- Competence in caring for agitated/violent patients who may require seclusion/restraints
- Previous case management/utilization review and managed care model experience preferred
