About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide comprehensive crisis intervention for patients and families presenting for psychiatric symptom assessment
- Coordinate admissions and referrals for patients and families
- Conduct intake assessments in the Emergency Department and/or Walk In Center
- Make referral recommendations to the appropriate level of care
- Interact with physicians, advanced practitioners, care teams, and behavioral health staff to facilitate referral decisions and placement
- Coordinate with behavioral health team members on patient flow and appropriate placement issues
- Serve as a liaison for other hospital and network sites
- Support patient care areas and external customers with mental health needs and access to Behavioral Health Services
- Maintain knowledge of Mental Health regulations and procedures regarding patient rights and admission status
- Respond to agitation/violent behavior as a Control Team member using verbal de-escalation and/or physical restraint
- Monitor the therapeutic environment
- Support utilization management and pre-certification processes for intakes and consults
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Mental health professional with a minimum of one of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services field and 2-6 years of equal job experience
- Master’s degree in a human services field and 1-3 years of equal job experience
- Minimum of 1 year of direct clinical mental health/crisis intervention experience required
- Previous experience with case management/utilization review and managed care models preferred
- Knowledge of Mental Health regulations and procedures pertaining to patient rights and voluntary/involuntary admission status
- Competency in assessment, range of treatment, growth and development, and age-appropriate communication
- Ability to respond to agitation/violent behavior using verbal de-escalation and/or physical restraint
- Ability to care for agitated/violent patients requiring seclusion/restraints
- Ability to complete utilization management pre-certification processes
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, write, type, hold charts, and frequently lift and carry up to 10 pounds
- Full legal name and current home address required in application
