About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating patient medical records with recent test results and correspondence
- Complete pre-charting of value-based pieces up to five days before appointments and message the Care Team when warranted
- Prepare patients for examinations and escort them to exam rooms
- Record height, weight, vital signs, medications, allergies, personal/family/social history, smoking status, visit reason, and demographic information
- Provide directed patient care services, including maintaining clean exam rooms and clinical supplies
- Clean and autoclave contaminated instruments
- Give injections or immunizations within State guidelines
- Communicate and coordinate with providers and the Care Team regarding discharges, emergency visits, specialists, testing, disease management, self-management, education, and community resources
- Participate in department activities, meetings, problem resolution, and procedure analysis
- Dispose of biohazardous and regular waste according to practice protocol
- Maintain vaccine temperature logs, inventory, medical supply ordering, expired medication disposal, and room stocking
- Perform administrative tasks including check-in, check-out, and opening and closing office procedures
- Suggest improvements to Practice Managers and Providers
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School degree or equivalent required
- One year of clinical experience OR graduate of Medical Assistant program required
- Two years of experience in similar healthcare setting preferred
- Customer service experience strongly preferred
- Current BLS/CPR certification or certification obtained within 60 days of hire through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours at a time
- Occasional ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- Occasional ability to push wheelchairs with patients weighing up to 325 pounds
- Complete a 30/60/90 day on-boarding checklist where applicable
