About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist in the delivery of health care management for the practice
- Actively participate in and support primary clinical teams
- Manage appointment scheduling and track referrals
- Open and close the office as required
- Capture patient demographic information
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and department activities
- Attend departmental meetings and help resolve identified problems
- Analyze current procedures and suggest improvements
- Conduct pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating medical records
- Complete pre-charting of value-based items up to five days before appointments and message the Care Team when warranted
- Prepare patients for examinations and escort them to exam rooms
- Record height, weight, vital signs, medications, allergies, histories, smoking status, and reason for visit
- Keep exam rooms clean and maintain clinical supplies
- Clean and autoclave contaminated instruments
- Give injections or immunizations within the state-approved scope of practice
- Perform phlebotomy, pulmonary functions/nebulizer procedures, EKGs, and assist with OB/GYN exams as needed
- Dispose of biohazardous and regular waste according to practice protocol
- Maintain vaccine temperature logs, inventory, supply ordering, expired medication disposal, and room stock levels
- Schedule outpatient testing, pre-certify procedures, process referrals, respond to patient communications, refill medications, and provide visit information
- Coordinate with providers and Care Coordinators regarding discharges, ED visits, specialists, community resources, disease management, education, care plans, and follow-up
- Review in-basket clinical pool messages and complete information needed to clear them
- Maintain referral work queues and update notes for communication with other departments
- Work under supervision of the practice manager, physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants
Requirements
What you’ll need- HS diploma or equivalent required
- Graduate of accredited Medical Assistant program is strongly preferred
- Two years experience in a similar healthcare setting is preferred
- Customer service experience is strongly preferred
- BLS/CPR current or obtained within 60 days of hire through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours at a time
- Continual use of fingers for patient care, writing, and computer entry
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
- Ability to occasionally push a supply cart up to 30 pounds
- Ability to occasionally push a wheelchair with a patient weighing up to 325 pounds
- Ability to stoop, bend, and reach above shoulder level
- Ability to hear normal conversation and have good general, near, and peripheral vision
- Submit full legal name, current home address, and employment history for the past seven years
