About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist in delivering healthcare management for the practice
  • Participate in and support primary clinical teams under the supervision of practice managers, physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants
  • Maintain and improve quality improvement initiatives
  • Schedule appointments and track referrals
  • Open and close the office as required
  • Capture patient demographic information
  • Attend departmental meetings and participate in problem resolution and procedure improvement
  • Conduct pre-visit planning and update patient medical records with test results and correspondence
  • Complete pre-charting of value-based items up to five days before appointments and message the Care Team when warranted
  • Prepare patients for examinations and escort them to exam rooms
  • Obtain vital signs, update medication and allergy records, document histories, smoking status, and reason for visit
  • Clean exam rooms, maintain clinical supplies, clean and autoclave contaminated instruments, and provide in-scope clinical services
  • Give injections and immunizations, perform phlebotomy, pulmonary functions/nebulizer procedures, EKGs, and assist with OB/GYN examinations as needed
  • Dispose of biohazardous and regular waste according to practice protocol
  • Maintain vaccine temperature logs, inventory, medical supply ordering, expired medication disposal, and room stocking
  • Schedule outpatient testing, pre-certify procedures, process referrals, respond to patient communications, refill medications, and provide visit information
  • Coordinate with providers and Care Coordinators regarding discharges, emergency department visits, specialists, community resources, disease management, education, care plans, and follow-up
  • Review clinical in-basket messages and complete information needed to clear them
  • Maintain referral work queues and update notes for interdepartmental communication
  • Complete applicable 30/60/90-day onboarding checklist

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program is strongly preferred
  • Two years of experience in a similar healthcare setting is preferred
  • Customer service experience is strongly preferred
  • Current BLS/CPR certification or certification obtained within 60 days of hire through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours
  • Continual use of fingers for patient care, writing, and computer entry
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to push a supply cart weighing up to 30 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to push a wheelchair with a patient weighing up to 325 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to stoop, bend, and reach above shoulder level
  • Ability to hear normal conversation and possess good general, near, and peripheral vision
  • Application must include full legal name, current home address, and employment history for the past seven years
