About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide patient-centered registration, laboratory, and diagnostic services in Patient Service Center settings
- Interpret laboratory orders, verify patient identity and test requirements, and complete order verification
- Transcribe non-SLUHN laboratory orders into the St. Luke's EHR system
- Assist patients with kiosk registration and perform Epic registration workflows
- Obtain referrals, pre-certifications, insurance verification, and other required registration information
- Verify insurance or self-pay eligibility and collect applicable payments, co-pays, and deductibles
- Perform venipuncture, capillary collection, and heel sticks for newborn, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients
- Label specimens, verify specimen integrity, and follow laboratory collection, safety, infection prevention, and regulatory standards
- Collect approved non-blood specimens, including throat and nasal swabs
- Maintain respirator fit-testing competency and use N95 or respirator-level protection when indicated
- Perform outpatient EKGs, including patient preparation, lead placement, image acquisition, quality review, troubleshooting, and Epic routing workflows
- Process, prepare, package, track, store, and transfer specimens to the core laboratory
- Complete accurate EHR documentation
- Operate and maintain centrifuges, EKG equipment, kiosks, and related technology
- Maintain site cleanliness and manage supply inventory
- Communicate with patients, scheduling, laboratory leadership, registration teams, couriers, cardiology, and laboratory processing areas
- Travel between Patient Service Center locations as needed for staffing, service, EKG coverage, specimen collection, or emergency operational needs
- Maintain required competencies, training, and documentation
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Phlebotomy program completion certificate or documented competency through a recognized training program required
- Minimum of 100 successful venipunctures
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to accurately use Epic or other electronic health record systems, registration tools, kiosk workflows, and related laboratory applications
- Strong customer service skills
- Reliable transportation to arrive at work locations as scheduled
- One year of phlebotomy experience preferred
- Experience with outpatient laboratory workflows, patient service center operations, specimen collection, specimen handling, processing, registration, and patient identification practices preferred
- Experience using Epic or another electronic health record, registration, or laboratory information system preferred
- Ability to perform required physical activities, lifting/carrying, pushing/pulling, keyboarding, data entry, and sensory/communication tasks
- Ability to operate a car for travel to assigned locations
- Ability to work with biological materials and use appropriate personal protective equipment

Comp & perks- Part-time schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–12:00 PM, with every third Saturday rotation
