About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Retrieve, sort, and decontaminate used materials, instruments, medical devices, and equipment from nursing units, Operating Room, Emergency Department, Delivery Rooms, Nurseries, Outpatient Departments, and other areas
  • Perform quality checks for cleanliness, sharpness, and proper functioning of instruments
  • Perform high-level disinfection on items that cannot be sterilized
  • Assemble and wrap items using the correct packaging material for sterilization
  • Sterilize wrapped and packaged items by steam or ETO
  • Prepare case carts for the Operating Room
  • Store and distribute medical devices, equipment, procedure trays, and supplies used in patient care

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be able to travel to both the Harleysville ASC and Grand View Hospital
  • Must be available for weekend on-call and holiday rotations
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • SPD certification required within 18 months of hire
  • On-the-job training with an 8-week minimum concentrated orientation period
  • Ability to stand up to 4 hours per day, up to 2 hours at a time
  • Ability to walk up to 4 hours per day, up to 2 hours at a time
  • Ability to sit up to 2 hours per day, 1 hour at a time
  • Frequent use of fingers and hands for data entry, assembling instrument trays, picking items for case carts, and packaging items
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with upper extremities
  • Hearing sufficient to hear above operating-equipment noise, alarms, and telephone
  • General, near, and peripheral vision sufficient to detect instrument defects
  • Ability to push and pull carts weighing up to 200 pounds
  • Submit application using full legal name and current home address
  • Include employment history for the past seven years, including present employer
