About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the Property and Projects Practice Group and provide strategic legal advice across national operations
  • Oversee property acquisitions, disposals, leasing, licensing and land use arrangements
  • Advise on capital works, infrastructure developments, construction projects and redevelopment initiatives
  • Develop legal frameworks, systems and processes for project delivery and risk management
  • Provide legal oversight from planning and procurement through delivery and completion
  • Identify, assess and manage legal and regulatory risks
  • Partner with executive leaders and senior stakeholders on priorities and strategic initiatives
  • Manage external legal providers and ensure high-quality, commercially focused legal services
  • Contribute specialist expertise to legal, governance, risk and commercial matters
  • Lead, mentor and develop lawyers and legal professionals
  • Build relationships with government bodies, consultants, contractors and development partners
  • Report to the National Director Legal and Risk

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Tertiary qualification in Law
  • Admission as a Solicitor or Barrister in Australia
  • Eligibility to hold a practising certificate without supervision requirements
  • 15+ years' post-qualification experience
  • Significant experience in property, construction, infrastructure, projects or commercial law
  • Experience in a leading law firm, major corporation, government organisation or complex in-house legal environment
  • Expertise in property transactions, leasing, development projects, construction contracts and infrastructure matters
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to provide practical, risk-based legal advice
  • Experience partnering with executive leaders and senior stakeholders
  • Proven leadership capability, including mentoring and developing legal professionals
  • Highly developed negotiation, communication and relationship management skills
  • Strong organisational and project management capability in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment
  • Ability to work strategically while maintaining a practical, solutions-focused approach
  • Commitment to St Vincent's values and appreciation of the social purpose of healthcare and aged care services
  • Successful applicant must satisfy identification, right-to-work, reference and nationally coordinated criminal history checks
  • Successful applicant must comply with applicable St Vincent's Health Australia policies and screening requirements
