About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own product discovery, strategy, and delivery for a hardware product area from 0-1, from market insight and concept through to a shipped, supportable product
- Build a point of view on the market, customers, their current problems, competitor shortcomings, and opportunities
- Drive iterative testing loops by prototyping, testing real-world conditions, learning, and revising
- Talk to users, visit sites, and understand how hardware is used in the field
- Define product specifications and requirements for engineering execution
- Work hands-on with mechanical, electrical, and firmware engineers to balance cost, manufacturability, performance, and schedule
- Collaborate with design and engineering to de-risk assumptions early
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years in hardware product management
- Ideally, hands-on experience building robotics products
- Experience taking a hardware product from 0-1, from early concept and market validation through to a released product
- Comfortable running iterative test-and-learn cycles with physical prototypes
- Experience building and shipping products
- Ability to critically evaluate customer and market problems and break ambiguity into structured decisions
- Design and engineering sense with attention to product craft
- Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Mechanical engineering degree or related discipline with real hands-on design or build experience (nice to have)
- Experience running structured tests on physical products, including DOE, prototype validation, reliability or environmental testing (nice to have)
- Familiarity with CAD tools such as SolidWorks and Fusion 360; DFM/DFA; injection molding, sheet metal, CNC; electromechanical systems, motors, or controls; reading drawings; tolerance checking with GD&T; and engineering trade-offs (nice to have)
- Prior experience at a robotics, automation, or industrial equipment company (nice to have)
- Startup experience owning a product end-to-end across hardware and software (nice to have)
