About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Maintain an accurate, efficient, and data-driven preference card system across multiple sites
- Serve as a subject matter expert in EPIC preference cards
- Work with staff, clinicians, managers, vendors, supply chain personnel, service heads, scheduling office, SPD, and other departments
- Ensure instruments, specialty supplies, implants, tissues, and other resources are accurately represented on preference cards
- Manage preference cards, case need projections, trials and evaluations, and process improvement projects
- Create, set up, and train others on organizational preference card management standards
- Maintain and update preference cards and ensure their accuracy
- Analyze and prepare next day’s surgical cases
- Review cases for correct mnemonics, scheduling, cards, corrections, special needs, conflicts, duplicate or excessive supplies, instruments, and equipment
- Create, delete, and modify cards and groups; maintain pick lists and core picklists
- Document and follow up on missing case information
- Review add-ons and notify OR schedulers of required corrections
- Authorize mnemonics for service lines or locations
- Process preference card and mnemonic requests
- Interface with Supply Chain, Item Master, and SPD for additions, deletions, and substitutions
- Submit IT requests, maintain pool quantities and equipment cards, and run supply, instrument, and equipment reports
- Collect and audit preference cards and pick lists from preceding cases
- Review monthly mnemonic news and update cards
- Attend daily huddles with clinical, OR, SPD, and surgical materials managers
- Use performance improvement methodology to design data collection systems and identify care and service improvement opportunities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of service
- Minimum of 5 years' recent intra-operative experience in an acute care OR environment
- California Registered Nurse (RN) license/certification
- Strong service level knowledge
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Strong project and time management skills
- Experience with Lawson ERP
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and proficiency with other Microsoft Office programs
- Data management skills
- Experience with EPIC OpTime, case scheduling, and independent project management
- Ability to work under tight timescales and pressure while maintaining attention to detail and quality
- Ability to promote a positive work environment through communication, diversity awareness, and teamwork
