About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own Starling’s performance marketing strategy across all paid channels for personal and business banking products
  • Set and deliver strategy balancing customer acquisition, volume, CAC, payback and long-term customer value
  • Allocate and optimise significant media budgets across channels, audiences, products and propositions
  • Lead optimisation of paid search, paid social, programmatic, app marketing, affiliates, partnerships and emerging channels
  • Build a continuous testing and optimisation programme across audiences, creative, messaging, landing journeys, bidding, channels and media strategy
  • Improve CAC, conversion rates and payback periods while identifying incremental growth opportunities
  • Use data, attribution and experimentation to assess incremental channel contribution and advance MMM measurement
  • Partner with Web, CRM, Data and Product Marketing teams across the customer journey
  • Develop performance frameworks and KPIs to guide investment decisions
  • Lead forecasting, budgeting and performance reporting for senior stakeholders
  • Partner with creative and brand teams on insight-led creative testing
  • Identify and evaluate new channels, platforms, partnerships and technologies
  • Manage media agencies, technology partners and key platforms
  • Build relationships with Google, Meta, Apple and other partners
  • Champion automation, machine learning and AI in media marketing operations
  • Ensure activity meets regulatory, compliance and brand guidelines
  • Lead, coach and develop the performance marketing team
  • Contribute to Starling’s wider growth strategy as a senior Growth Marketing leader

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Significant experience leading performance marketing and customer acquisition within a high-growth, consumer-focused business
  • Proven experience managing substantial paid media investment across multiple channels, with accountability for CAC, acquisition volume, payback and commercial return
  • Deep understanding of paid search, paid social, programmatic, app marketing, affiliates, partnerships and emerging channels
  • Demonstrable track record of improving marketing efficiency while continuing to grow acquisition
  • Deep commercial and analytical skills, translating complex performance data into investment decisions and recommendations
  • Experience with testing, experimentation, optimisation and attribution, including incrementality and platform-reported performance limitations
  • Experience dynamically managing and optimising media budgets
  • Excellent understanding of customer journeys, conversion optimisation, media, product, proposition, creative and CRM
  • Experience developing performance strategies across established and emerging channels
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders and executive-level investment decisions
  • Robust agency and partner management experience
  • Experience leading, mentoring and developing high-performing teams
  • Deep understanding of digital measurement, analytics and marketing technology
  • Experience working closely with data and analytics teams
  • Experience in financial services, fintech, ecommerce, subscription or another high-volume, data-rich consumer business would be advantageous
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment
  • Passion for finding better ways to grow and driving a paid econometrics model
