About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Develop and maintain capabilities enabling businesses to collect payments and integrate accounts with third-party providers
Deliver features including Invoicing, Tap to Pay and Settle Up for Business
Maintain Starling’s Open Banking API and proprietary PSD2 public API
Maintain the Starling Marketplace and peer-to-peer ecosystem supporting Confirmation of Payee
Explore and deliver innovations such as Easy Account Top Up
Engage in technical and product engineering
Collaborate closely with external third-party partners
Build, design and discover solutions while sharing knowledge with colleagues
Improve processes to deliver efficient and productive outcomes for customers
Participate in phone, take-home technical, technical and final interviews

Requirements

What you’ll need

At least 3–4 years of Java experience
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to write clear, concise and maintainable code
Strong understanding of delivering robust, scalable systems
Proven track record of engineering excellence
Experience with AWS and Postgres highly desirable
Interest or experience in clean coding, simple solutions, automated testing and continuous deployment
Technical knowledge of Java, AWS, GCP, distributed service-based architecture, Kubernetes (EKS), TeamCity for CI/CD, Terraform and Grafana is beneficial
Ability to work across teams and apply broad technical knowledge to varied problems
Self-driven approach and ability to take full ownership
No specific educational qualification required; aptitude and attitude valued over formal qualifications
