About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Help plan and monitor natural resource management projects, including prescribed burning, mechanical restoration treatments, invasive species control, and imperiled species management
- Conduct surveys for imperiled species
- Conduct research relevant to ecosystem restoration and maintenance
- Assist in making management recommendations and prepare portions of park management plan revisions
- Consult with other professionals regarding best management practices
- Assemble and maintain species inventories to assess ecosystem health
- Develop and present talks and programs about the park’s natural history and resource management projects
- Maintain and secure assigned scientific and support equipment
- Maintain cleanliness of the workspace, assigned vehicles, and equipment
- Acquire and maintain scientific and professional reports as references
- Develop and maintain files on research, monitoring, and other activities
- Develop budget requests and equipment specifications
- Document research and activities and maintain computer databases and files
- Perform other related duties as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Valid Driver’s License
- Knowledge of Florida’s natural and cultural resources
- Skill in communicating effectively verbally and in writing
- Skill in filling out reports such as timesheets and vehicle logs
- Skill in interpreting resources and park policies to visitors
- Ability to work occasional weekends
- Ability to work outdoors in inclement conditions
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Ability to accurately prepare reports
- Ability to create, read and follow a map
- Ability to work in remote and isolated locations
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to perform physical labor
