About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Stenographically record court proceedings in the courtroom or remotely
- Produce transcripts of court proceedings
- Perform research, proofreading, and editing of recorded proceedings
- Attend and stenographically report court proceedings in realtime while simultaneously audio recording all proceedings reported
- Maintain stenograph notes on file for future transcription
- Produce accurate transcripts, providing rough drafts or final copies to parties as requested
- Assist with training other departmental personnel
- Develop work methods and sequences independently under general supervision
- Provide services in all counties of the Eighth Judicial Circuit
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate’s degree or equivalent of two years of college or vocational school education in computer operations, medical/legal terminology, court reporting, paralegal or a closely related field
- Four years of related experience
- Must maintain membership in the National Court Reporting Association (NCRA)
- Experience with Eclipse and computer-aided translation (CAT) software
- Ability to stenographically write testimony at a minimum rate of at least 225 words per minute with a 98% correct translation rate in realtime
- Excellent English grammar, punctuation and spelling skills
- Ability to work independently, keep detailed and accurate records, and maintain files
- Knowledge of the Florida State Court system, current courtroom policies and procedures, and relevant Florida Statutes preferred
- Realtime writer experience preferred
- Court experience a plus
- Successful applicant subject to a criminal background check
