About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist management with strategic planning and process improvement across program areas
  • Identify, collect, and analyze data; document programs; and develop or update standard operating procedures
  • Determine data collection methods
  • Produce and update technical reports and comment letters
  • Deliver presentations for varied audiences on Division priorities and projects
  • Develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, and document workflow improvements
  • Monitor project timelines, deliverables, milestones, and deadlines
  • Assist with quality assurance activities
  • Support compliance-related programs and grants by monitoring inspection data, reviewing reporting accuracy, tracking regulatory deadlines, and ensuring adherence to requirements
  • Coordinate with supervisors and Division staff on aquaculture education, policy, scientific development, projects, policies, procedures, and performance measures
  • Track scientific, technical, and policy developments in aquaculture
  • Develop and deliver training materials, reference guides, and checklists
  • Assist with basic GIS mapping and CRM database support
  • Maintain and update digital maps
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in environmental protection, regulation, public health or food safety; physical or natural sciences; agriculture; or engineering; OR
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and six months of experience as an Environmental Specialist I or higher with the State of Florida; OR
  • A bachelor's degree (4 years) from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Class E Driver License
  • Ability to pass a background screening, including fingerprinting
  • Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations
  • Knowledge of aquaculture, environmental science, marine science, or a similar field
  • Knowledge of data collection and management and ability to work with large datasets
  • Experience with effective public science communication
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency with virtual video conferencing platforms
  • Ability to travel throughout the state and region
  • Ability to work occasionally during nights and weekends
